Wood Badge for the 21st Century

Another Far-out Fox SR-502 production

Drew Smith © 2003

Why a brief history of Scouting?

I used to be a fox and a good old fox too, but now I am finished foxing I don't know what to do I am growing old and feeble and I can fox no more, so I am going to work my Ticket if I can.  Back to Gilwell Happy Land I am going to work my ticket if I can.

If you know "THE SONG" then you know how I got started on this.  Wood Badge.  That sums it up.  It is brief because I realized early on that there was just way too much information existing on scouting for me to be anything but brief.  As one of our Colonial Virginia Council's great scouters, Herb Sullivan,  told us at a training session, "They're writing it faster than you can read it." I chose history of scouting as a topic because of something a Bodacious Bobwhite, a.k.a. Art Batten our Scoutmaster of SR502, said at a campfire one night about how many scouts didn't know the history of our great organization.
